The Bodrum Peninsula

THE BODRUM PENINSULA

The Bodrum Peninsula was little acknowledged until the mid-20th century, and its beautiful coastline was home to sailors and sponge divers. Then a bohemian set (writers, artists, and painters) found Bodrum and put the spot on the map. Today, Bodrum is growing—a year-round getaway for Turks and newcomers alike. You’ll be in the middle of the action in Bodrum town, the active spot on the peninsula, but a stay in one of the smaller settlements nearby will reveal the region’s quieter expose and its landscape of tangerine farms and stone windmills. The lovely, mysterious stone domes that dot the landscape are old water cisterns.
