What to pack

For women, it's expedient to bring a scarf or shawl that will cover the hair (and shoulders, if you are using a sleeveless shirt) when inserting mosques. If you're planning to visit Cappadocia, a flashlight can be useful for exploring cave churches and underground cities. If you're going anywhere with beaches or archeological ruins, it's wise to bring sunscreen. An umbrella is a good idea if you're touring Istanbul in the rainy winter months, though cheap ones are immediately available for sale on city streets.
