We will visit the remains of the ancient city of Pergamum including the Royal Palaces, Temple of Trajan, Sanctuary of Athena, Library of Pergamum, Theatre and The Theatre Terrace, Altar of Zeus, Heroon, Arsenal, Upper Agora, Water Supply Canals, Sanctuary of Demeter, Sanctuary of Hera and Upper Gymnasium, Gymnasium, Lower and Middle Terraces. In the lower city we will see the House of Consul Attalus, Lower Agora (marketplace), Gate of Eumene, The Acropolis and the Asklepion of ancient Pergamum, both listed among the top 100 historical sites on the Mediterranean. The first Temple of Asclepius in Pergamon was built in the first half of the 4th century BC. It was originally the Principal Hellenistic centre and later became a thriving Roman province. Most of the extraordinary buildings and monuments in Bergama date to the time of Eumenes II. The Asklepion was the world’s first medical centre, using groundbreaking techniques in healing such as bathing, dieting, exercise and dream therapy. Down the road is the crumbling but impressive Red Basilica, originally a temple honouring Serapis (known in Egypt as Osiris), later to become a Byzantine church and one of the seven churches of Asia Minor mentioned by St. John in the Book of Revelation. Lastly we visit the Pergamon Archaeology Museum.

At the end of the guided tour, you will provided approximately one hour of free leisure time where you can choose to explore the sites further, stroll or relax and enjoy some refreshments.
