Getting Around Turkey

GETTING AROUND TURKEY

In Turkey, you can travel by plane, bus, car, or train. With the appearance of several new national airline companies in recent years, racing has increased, and the price of domestic flights has come down, so if your aim is to see many different areas of the nation in a short time, you may want to fly between stops.

Turkey has an expanded bus network, with buses following all the major cities and even the smallest towns. Buses are safe, reliable, and surprisingly comfortable, making them an excellent way to travel around the country.

Renting a car allows you higher flexibility than traveling by bus and the chance to see areas that are more off the beaten path, as well a glimpse of small-town Turkish life. Although major roads are usually in good condition, minor roads can be rough and poorly paved, and it's wise to avoid driving at night. Traffic in the major cities, especially Istanbul, can be nightmarish. If you don't want a stick transformation, reserve well in advance and specify an automatic transmission.

Although they can be affordable than buses, trains serve to be far slower and do not serve many areas of the country. High-speed rail lines run between Ankara and Eskişehir, Ankara and Konya, and Eskişehir and Konya, but for other ways, it's not usually worth taking the train.
