Ortahisar Guide

ORTAHISAR

A rather sleepy farming village is overlooking scenic Pancarlik Valley, Ortahisar was traditionally famous for its underground caves where fruit stored. Although it has lately gotten into the tourism business, with the possibility of a few small hotels and spots to eat, Ortahisar is still a functioning community and retains a more charmingly authentic atmosphere than most other area towns. Visitors tend to enjoy the off-the-beaten-path vibe but should inform that dining choices and other services for travelers are limited, and the area can feel a bit deserted at night. Ortahisar, meaning "middle fortress," is named after its central ruins, a large rock outcropping/fairy chimney that was once used as a fortress.
